IRS Rail Webinars

Good decision-making for railways in tough times

25 Nov 2020 | Available on-demand

ABOUT THE WEBINAR:

Over the past few months, rail operators and infrastructure owners have been facing new and unpredictable challenges. Good decision-making is vital to face this turbulence and sustain efficient and viable operations. We must react quickly and react well.

In this session, senior figures will share success stories of managing operational strategy during the pandemic, from service and asset deployment to maintenance scheduling and timetable planning.

Good decision-making requires good information and good analysis. Railway operations simulation experts Trenolab will present how modelling can help predict and manage disruption.

Speakers

Alex Schock,

Head of Delivery Intelligent Infrastructure

Network Rail

Alex is currently Head of Delivery for Intelligent Infrastructure - Network Rail’s flagship digital transformation programme working to establish a data-driven railway. He is overseeing the design and delivery of new technology that is shifting the business to new predictive maintenance regimes that will drive a safer, better performing and more cost effective railway. Before joining the programme, Alex has spent the past decade working on digital change programmes, including ORBIS, which introduced new capability for frontline engineers to carry out targeted work across the railway infrastructure through improved techniques to capture, store and exploit accurate asset data.
Jan Ilik,

European Affairs Representative & Deputy Director Long Distance

Czech Railways (ČD)

Jan joined Česke dráhy in 2018 and since then he has worked in different positions, mostly being responsible for international cooperation and projects. Currently he holds the post of Deputy Director in the Department of long-distance transport. He became the official representative of České dráhy in Brussels in September 2020. His main tasks involve mid- and long-term development projects incl. innovation and research. Between 2010–18 Jan worked at the Czech Ministry of Transport where was primarily responsible for mid- and long-term railway strategy and infrastructure development projects including high-speed strategy, TEN-T policy and cross-border issues. During his studies he worked as a steward on night trains.

Technical Director

Trenolab

Giorgio studied railway engineering, receiving a PhD in Transportation Engineering in 2010 from the University of Trieste. He was awarded the Young Researcher Award of the International Association of Railway Operations Research (IAROR) in 2011. He founded TRENOlab to deliver advanced railway simulations and continues to be active in research, co-authoring numerous books and articles on operations planning and simulations. With 15 years of experience and over 100 studies involving railways simulations, he is currently leading TRENOlab in the role of Technical Director.
