Delegates attending the 7th International Railway Summit visited key rail facilities in the host city of Frankfurt on the afternoon of Wednesday 20 February 2019, learning about the city’s transport infrastructure, the maintenance of Deutsche Bahn’s suburban trains, and engaging with the prototypes and ideas that could transform the sector.

VGF Infrastructure Tour

Frankfurt’s main local transport operator, Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurtam Main mbH (VGF), which runs services on 9 underground and 10 tram lines, took delegates on an infrastructure tour, including major transport hub Konstablerwache station. VGF Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer Michael Rüffer led the tour, which began at VGF’s headquarters, highlighting innovations and modernisations made in recent years.

Skydeck think tank @ DB Systel

Delegates were able to see and test for themselves the exciting new technologies being developed by DB Systel, Deutsche Bahn’s digital subsidiary. At the Skydeck think tank atop the Silver Tower in Central Frankfurt, DB Systel delivered a presentation and demonstrated, through a guided tour and interactive workshops, transformative products and visions in the fields of virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, automation, and blockchain.
